So every time I head to WA, I make a stop here. Oddly enough, it's not a restaurant I go back for, it's a t-shirt store. The kind of t-shirts I love, that have the crazy statements printed on, that make the people back at work laugh their heads off. So it's time again for yet another batch of those shirts, and some for a few deserving people.
Before any shopping can be done, the two of us had to fuel up, and the specials on the menu board of this restaurant had caught our attention. Add to that a really friendly, and slightly quirky waiter that kept us laughing enough to sit down and try their grub. After looking at the menu, we tried most of the items on the board, with the exception of the smoked salmon appetiser. The food was really lovely, simple yet tasty, and really filling. Shame we had no space for dessert.
Smoke Salmon is not something new to us, but the blood orange was. The combination of the really tart orange, with the oily fish, complete with the creamy dill mixture and peppery salad made a really lovely explosion in the mouth that sent sparks to the nerve-endings in the brain.
Smoked Salmon With Blood Orange
One of the few French Onion Soups that was actually served with the bread that has cheese melted right on, and isn't actually soaked through till it's soggy. The soup looks very light, but it's quite hearty and had a really sweet onion flavour. Good thing I wasn't sleeping in the same room with anyone that night.
French Onion Soup
Simplicity at it's best. They took chicken breast, Granny Smith apples and avocados, sliced them up, tossed them in some lovely flavours. Take mixture, plonk on a bed of lettuce, sprinkle some diced tomatoes and out comes the most refreshing thing I had right after the smoked salmon.
Apple, Avocado & Chicken Salad
I don't really like rice, but this trip has opened my eyes to the world of risottos. So when this thing was on the board, I decided to add it to the tasting list. It was one decision that didn't disappoint. It was nice and buttery, flavoured thoroughly with the salty sweetness of the scampi. Only thing was there wasn't enough scampi in there.
Scampi Risotto
So prawn & pasta is another common dish we have, but this was a really satisfying choice when the amount of prawns in this dish was enough to cover the lack of seafood in the risotto. The sauce was buttery but not too rich, with a nice kick coming from the tomatoes.
Prawn Linguine
After the delicious meal, we were off to shop. And shop we did... till we almost dropped... went back to dump stuff in the car... and continued shopping before we headed back to make dinner and watch some tv.
BURP!
