Today we got up early enough to enjoy the hotel's breakfast and I loved the idea of them using cinnamon sticks as stirrers for your tea/coffee. Didi tried their Mee Goreng (fried noodles) while I had the Nasi Goreng (fried rice). The only disappointment was that the fried egg that topped my rice was over done and looked rather weird with the yolk almost seperate from the white. After breakfast, we were off on our adventure on foot to explore Bali and to take notes on our map.
From the resort, we were just a corner away from the shopping as well as the beach. We decided that we would check out the shopping today and took note of a few things like the best exchange rates and the closest 24hr mini-mart. This also made us realise that the one nearest to our resort was a rip-off but I guess that's because they're banking on the tourists around the area. After a few turns we reached the beach and we were taking that scenic route to the Hard Rock Bali as Didi wanted to get something from there.
Along that route, we got to check out some tours that looked really fun and interesting but the person in-charge of the tourist info kiosk wasn't there, or maybe he was the one pissing in the bushes. NICE... Anyway, we got thristy and stopped at McDonald's for a quick break. With all the bombings Bali has had, they've got security even at McDonald's, checking your bags as you enter. Not wanting to take the risk of eating at McDonald's since it was said to be "worse than Singapore's" by Mom and Sis, we decided to go somewhere else for lunch and we ended up having a feast at Pizza Hut.
I got my first glass of Avocado Juice in a loooooong time - the one thing I miss from Bali. Didi got an interesting soda the ended up looking like fizzy Bandung. We ordered some prawn mixture over bread that was really nice. The bread had a crisp crust but was really soft in the centre and the mixture was creamy, but had a nice bite to it from the onions. I think if I stuck to eating a few more of that with a soup and salad I would have been just as satisfied as I was with the whole meal. Each got a soup, but Didi had hers with puff pastry and I had a pan pizza while she went for a pasta. I guess we were a bit too hungry and once all the food came, the camera was tossed aside and forgotten.
Once we could move again, we were off towards our initial destination and there wasn't much in between that was of any interest though there was one hotel which looked abandoned. Finally when we were about to turn into Hard Rock Bali, we were stopped by a man who started tearing some card and gave the half torn one to Didi while he gave me another. So since he tore the card open and asked me to do the same, I realised he was some guy trying to promote a time-share holiday and was almost to the point of begging us to just listen in on what the company has to say.
Didi was a bit apprehensive about it and I told her what would go on, plus the thing was in Jimbaran and we would be getting a free ride there. Well actually, I thought that if we were to have to sit for that one hour or so for the talk, we might end up finishing around dinner time, which could mean that we would just explore Jimbaran and end up having a seafood dinner after. To cut a long story short, we were brought to Jimbaran, didn't qualify for the talk, got our freebies and decided to get our ride back to where they "kidnapped" us. It was a productive trip in the end, with Didi yakking to the guys in Malay, she got quite a bit of info out from them but they dropped us off at Discovery Shopping Mall instead of Hard Rock
Well when life give you lemons, make a lemon meringue pie. So we continued our free & easy tour and found a few things that we would like to get back to. Plus we got a confirmation on the prices of tours, which aren't fixed and that didn't sit well with either of us. As we walked from Discovery to Kuta Square, I saw a restaurant called Bubba Gump Shrimp Co and told Didi that we have to dine there before we left Bali.
After shopping around Kuta Square, we decided to get our dinner and head home for a swim in the dark and relax, at the same time giving Didi a chance to try on her new bikini. Dinner was something I wanted to get in Thailand but somehow we were never close enough to step into one outlet. We ended up getting a simple A&W dinner of chicken & corn soup, fried chicken and rice.... yes rice, with a root beer float each . Since we got the meals, we also got a free plastic orange mug that's a replica of the glass mugs they used to serve their floats in. Didi then tried on her new bikini and did a short photoshoot before we were out to swim... or in my case... float and relax.
