The flight was rather uneventful, and mainly cloudy. The clouds decided to let it all down just as we touched down to Penang, making it a wet journey for some of our luggage.
Since we were too early to check into the hotel, Mom and I started our culinary journey right at the Airport's cafe. Good thing the food was quite good, which gave us hope to the good stuff we can look forward to. Mom had decided to get a Mee Goreng, while I had the Penang Laksa. All this while, I had only tried a Penang Laksa by the lady who sold Yong Tau Fu at the coffee shop near home. She was the closest to an original recipe as she was from Penang. I would say her dish was quite good as the cafe's dish tasted almost similar. The cafe just had better access to refreshing mint!
After our brunch, we caught a cab to the hotel and made a new friend/tour guide. He gave us his card, and told us to call when we would liek to go around the island. Well, mom was a bit skeptical, wondering what his prices would end up like. I decided he might come in handy should we decide to make a whole day tour around the island, especially with quite a few places I was interested in having a look at.
Right after views of the hotel were taken, I needed a nap, and so did mom apparently. I was more tired than I realise as mom managed to get up a few hours later for dinner, but couldn't even tempt me with the prospect of food hunting to get me out of bed. In the end, Mom ventured out on her own to the local night market and got some dishes that she knew we'd both like. By the time I woke up to eat, it was all cold, but still quite tasty though the vendor fried the prawns a little too long. But the first taste of Penang's Char Kway Teow, Nasi Goreng and Oyster Omelette was a good one.
